Charlotte, I love your new approach of starting from the inside out. I used to be extremely messy when I was younger, but I always prided myself on having an organized mind. As I've gotten older, I keep less and less. My filing system isn't perfect, but better than before. I'm glad the ripping and tossing is bringing you joy.
What I know for sure is I am in no position to lecture. I am pretty organized and it has been an evolution over many years. Need to find what works for you. I am a long-time user of the Google family of products. This worked in my work career and now in retirement. My sense is cool apps and approaches constantly emerge. I have never seen the value of using apps that are not interoperable (walled gardens mostly). Whatever becomes my system I don't want it to be dictated by the brand of device I use or who owns my applications.
My favorite part of your photo was the tenuous piles. So relieved that while there seemed to be lots of CDs, I didn't see any cassettes.
Actually, you sound like you are in a position to lecture--I love the way you describe your organization. I really think (hope) having a system that is right for you is the key. And yes, I loved that there were CDs in that photo! And, oh, cassettes, remember what a pain it was to listen to them. Woe befall you is you wanted to rewind to a certain song.
Whenever I think my organization is pretty good I think about my car -- ugh -- time for some ancient self-promotion! If you are a MUSIC LOVER you might enjoy this post which was my 2nd week of posting with no subscribers. The street musician is OOTW. -- https://markdolan.substack.com/p/music-is-magic -- this one was about a week later. It betrays how much I love music and history -- https://markdolan.substack.com/p/recorded-music -- in the beginning I was writing daily. I suppose you and I were born into the age when music media started changing almost continuously!
Cars don't count. At least in my world. And funnily enough, I just posted a photo on Instagram of my new Crosley vintage radio. Tiny little thing I bought to be able to have music playing quietly in the kitchen. (And not having to stop to think about what exact songs I want to hear.) Very old school but I love it!
My wife's grandfather was an early adopter before it was a thing! He had a console radio from the 1940s that included a REMOTE CONTROL believe it or not!!! We eventually located tubes for it. The sound was very good. Never able to get the remote working again though.
I will look for you on Instagram. I created an account months ago and never go there. Thought I might try the Twitter/X alternate but never did.
I totally relate to the “disrupting lack of organization.” My mind goes blank when I face my piles and the lists meant to lessen those piles. Thanks for the inspo boost!
Mind going blank is a good way to describe it! Mine, too. And I have to say that working on it the last few days feels so good. So much lighter and I hope more brain space!
‘A couple of months ago in my coaching mastermind, my amazing coach Camille Pagán asked if there was one thing, that if changed, would make a difference in our lives. A lynchpin, if you will’.
It was sooo helpful for clarifying what I needed to focus on first. Been working on it all weekend to get things clear for surgery and it feels so good.

As long as your system works for you, it's a win! And I am finding that my mind starts to feel disorganized when my space is as well.

I am cautiously CONSIDERING Instagram (no Facebook for 12+ years) -- if I commit I will look for you. Vintage radios are COOL!
I love Instagram! The algorithm is awful, but it is full of lovely pix of things I love. My radio is a new vintage. It's great!
