Oh yes, the going around in circles to start where I began is a strong game here in this writer! 😅 Glad to know we’re in the car together. At least we can stop at the yarn shop when we’re temporarily lost!
Charlotte, Your advice that resisting our process is futile is so wise. I'm glad you are moving along again in your novel. As I read through your map example, I could help but think that it sounds like ADHD, which is so underdiagnoses in women.
Hi Sandra. I probably have at least some ADHD. I'm an Enneagram Nine, and our basic personality traits are very similar at times. Learning more about myself in those ways really helps. Thanks for reading and commenting with your always-wise observations.
Ugh. I know, I know. I've always been a total pantser. Writing a book took me SUCH a long time--I'd be well into the drafts and have no idea why any of my characters did anything. I had an "aha" moment with my last book, when I thought I was done (HAHA) and wrote the query. The query illuminated the fact that I was in fact not done. I was at that part where you go deeper. My new WIP (just started today) I switched things up a bit. I wrote a synopsis first, then a timeline (aka outline). I know that the first draft (and probably the next few) will be a journey of discovering. Still, doing that synopsis (a query would work too) gave me a great starting place. And I can change it however I want to. My one wish, which I hate admitting is that "at my age" it's hard not to feel like I'm in a rush. But rush = lack (yes, Camille) not to mention that I can't do anything about my age anyway. I'm grateful to be aging!!! So I circle around to "keep writing" and off I go. ~ J.
Love how you managed to circle around and get back to the writing. AND YOU STARTED YOUR NEXT NOVEL TODAY. Woo-hoo! Very excited for you. And--it will take as long as it will take!

And we'll stop at thrift stores--whoops I meant charity shops--too!
