I'm not sure but I think some of each. Probably due to being pretty new to the game. I think this is why I have so far not restricted my topic choices. I think that is counter to building an audience but my goal is build my craft at writing.

I disagree--I think part of the reason people like your Substack is because of your wide-ranging topics!

I hope that is true. I enjoy exploring different topics. Only a small subset of readers engage -- it is impossible to know what their impression might be since they are mostly passive. We are all different. What I know for sure is if I subscribed to a Substack and read it consistently for 13 weeks and nothing ever motivated me to comment, I think I would conclude it is likely not for me.

Very good point. I agree that only a small subset of readers engage, though you seem to have a loyal group who do. I think some people feel dumb commenting but I love getting comments and hoping my readers will build up to leaving more of them. I appreciate you, Mark!

My next post, if it is possible contains the MOST IRRESISTABLE music reference ever. My conclusion is if my readers do not comment, there is nothing more that I can do.
